SAP Functional Manager, Business Partner and Relationship Management

Purpose and Scope
The SAP Functional Manager (associate) supports the alignment between the business and IT, and serves as a trusted business advisor.  Works direct reports, Timken’s IT Center of Excellence (COE), and contingent resources to manage business expectations. Associate participates in establishment of, and drives execution and compliance with, technical and operational strategies, as well as standard/implemented business processes and global design.
 
Associate is responsible for enabling business process functionality by working closely with the team that develops, implements, and maintains functional applications within, predominantly but not limited to, Timken’s global SAP applications landscape.   Associate is responsible for a designated group of functional areas (currently Inter/Intra-company product movements, Order Management, Distribution/Warehousing/Logistics, Finance/Costing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, and CRM).
 
 
Responsibilities
Associate develops, sustains, and manages a team responsible for partnering with business functional management to execute/lead projects and support existing SAP systems.  
 
Associate provides the needed functional guidelines and SAP functional expertise to effectively create functional capabilities within the business system portfolios.  Associate insures adherence to standards to consistently deliver value-added solutions to the organization, on-time and on-budget.
 
Associate is responsible for, or manages directly or indirectly resources responsible for, Project oversight responsibility tasks:
1. Conducts business process analysis, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses. Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify complex information systems.
2. Assists in developing and maintaining project and communication plans and schedules, managing deadlines and coordinating project team and sub-team activities
3. Ensures that project goals are accomplished according to specifications and business objectives, relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
4. Estimates project skill requirements, working with the management teams inside and outside of IT to identify appropriate resources, and managing their integration into the team.
5. Defines and gains consensus on deliverables, milestones and scope, communicates status and vision to internal client management and stakeholders.
6. Provides leadership for SAP business systems and consults project teams and IT leadership on best practices.
7. Prepares and presents progress reports to various management levels.
 
Associate partners with key business leaders and process owners to ensure:
1. SAP project roadmap is in alignment with organizational strategic objectives, including, but not limited to, new business acquisition IT integration.
2. Value proposition for each project is justified through effective business case development
3. Implemented standard business process designs are leveraged, minimizing custom configuration/development
4. Projects cost and timeline estimates are developed and managed
5. Sustainable and measurable continuous improvement is achieved in both business processes as well as technology enablers
 
Other Responsibilities
1. Works with internal business customers and functional IT groups to develop short and long-term systems plans
2. Is responsible for overall performance and pay management of the team, including regular performance evaluations
3. Influences and interacts at very high levels with decision-makers both internally and externally
4. Adheres to organizational document control standards
5. Collaborates with infrastructure project management in setting project priorities and communicating with all relevant teams/individuals (Business and IT)
 
Required Technical/Functional Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business or related degree required
• 6 or more years of SAP functional management experience
• 5 years of experience as a project leader, with experience developing and executing project plans

3-5 years of demonstrated management/supervisory experience in business relationship management, systems functional management, and delivery championship, ideally including specific experience in:
• Managing IT-Business Relationships
• Managing technical teams in a diverse global environment
• 2 years of experience with full SAP lifecycle implementations (any module)
• Experience in M&A due diligence and acquisition integration
• Experience with annual business planning and budget management
• Strong communication skills – verbal and written
 
Preferred Functional Skills Required:
• 10 years of progressive broad-based information systems experience
• Strong collaboration skills
• 5 years industry experience in the functional business functional areas/discipline(s) relevant to this position
